Keep Your Strategic Plan Alive

What worked for you a year ago may not work now and that can affect your objectives or goals. In our recent article, The Benefits of Strategic & Tactical Planning, we touched on what a strategic plan is and its benefits. In addition to “working” the plan, it must be regularly reviewed and updated. Your strategic plan should be reviewed annually at the very least.

Read about how Success Trek worked with a client to update their strategic plan.

The Task

Giving back to the community through volunteer work gave Theresa the chance to work alongside the vice president of a community bank. This relationship evolved over the years and resulted in the vice president reaching out to Theresa for help for another perspective and support in updating the bank’s strategic plan. Through discussion, a Strategic Plan review retreat for the bank’s executive team was determined to meet their needs.

The Action

Theresa and her team’s preparation for a focused retreat included prework to gain clarity and focus on the current strategic plan, accomplishments, and common themes about the business’s direction for the future. The retreat allowed the executive team to reflect on what they had accomplished and where they wanted to take the business to remain competitive in the marketplace.

The Result

The client’s business operations were improved by updating the Strategic Plan, with goals and priorities clearly outlined. The team communicated that they benefitted from the real-life examples of what other companies were doing. They also shared that they appreciated an outside perspective where they could speak freely. Theresa maintained her relationship with the client, providing periodic checks to ensure no roadblocks or workplace issues were affecting the strategic plan’s implementation or goal progression.

Spoiler alert! In our next article, we will share with you how Theresa’s continued relationship led to another project for this client.
