March 2016 - Success TrekThe secret to success is most likely under your roof

“80% percent of employees who were dissatisfied with their direct manager were also disengaged."

Association for Talent Development

As we have made our way into the first quarter of 2016 (which is also our 10 year milestone), I was reflecting on which strategies have supported our growth the most. And as I started to jot down all of the different growth-causing factors, I found one common thread: people.

I know what you're thinking, "Of course you can't succeed without people!" However, I can assure you it's not quite as simple as people.

I'm more interested in connections, especially those inside your business. Fostering strong bonds with our teams has everything to do with how high you can climb. This topic takes me back to an article I wrote for the Northwest Indiana Business Quarterly back in 2011 titled, "The Science of People."

In it, I offer ways of improving employee happiness and in-house relationships. Although tackling these things may sound time-consuming or feel awkward (no "trust falls," I promise), not improving these relationships ends up costing you more money! I discovered that happier employees are 76% more efficient and produce work of higher quality. {tweet that}

It reminds me a lot of this quote, too, by Simon Sinek: "When people are financially invested, they want a return. When people are emotionally invested, they want to contribute."

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Please hit reply and let me know if this resonated with you.

Best,
Theresa
